BETA Version

The new features are currently in beta version and are the first version release. This basically means that we may make changes to any areas that require improvements. It also means that for the time being there are some limits, these are listed below:

Add Friends
Send Messages
Receive Messages
Add Records
Number of Records allowed in My Research are all limited to 250 each.

Familyrelatives.com now allows Families and Genealogists to collaborate by sharing research and reducing the geographic barriers to records and family histories in a way which is free, fun and secure.

My Account allows you to Connect, communicate, create, share, and build your family history. You can add comments to existing records and share this with existing researchers (select private or public use). Search the profiles for common interests.

Create your online profile, search the online documents and add your personal comments. Researchers can view your comments and add their own, effectively building a social picture of your ancestors.

Share your experience and connect with other researchers, search for common interests and request help or assistance with your research.

Records once found on the database may be added & saved to My Research creating your research bank.

“There are many of us who need help with research and having that knowledge however small can make a big difference with the progress of our research, by combining our efforts we can help each other and hope to make that vital breakthrough.”

The new tools at your disposal allow you to enter information regarding people you are researching as well as friends.

  • Set up your own Profile
  • Create groups of Friends
  • Match and share your research to other users
  • The system matches you automatically to others researching the same ancestors – it does this accurately and securely
  • Once you have an exact match you can get in touch
  • Add comments to official records for other’s to see
Getting Started - Register
In order to use Familyrelatives.com registration is required. Registration is free, quick and simple and requires a small amount of information. Once completed it gives access to over 600 million records (some records are pay per view) but over 200 million are completely free.

Create a Profile
If you want to take full advantage of Familyrelatives.com then set up a Profile. By completing a Profile and if you choose to share with others it opens a new world of co-operation. Designed to help each other by allowing greater use of local knowledge and expertise the My Profile is secure and uses a profile name as opposed to your actual name - this protects your privacy. Only you decide if you want to release any other details about you. We would recommend that you read the house rules before starting as these are important.

Search
Search as normal and if you find an Ancestor who is of interest simply click on Add a comment and save. This will automatically place the research in My Research. If you have chosen to share your research with others it will automatically match any other members who are searching the same information. Remember if you want to add a comment you first need to set up a Profile.

My Research
My Research is an invaluable dashboard - at a glance you can see what information you have been researching and whether anyone else is researching the same ancestors. It also allows you to send messages via Familyrelatives to members researching the same name as you.

My Messages
Once you have set up a profile you can send messages to other users in one of the three ways:

1.  Browsing or Searching a Profile - select the Send Message Button

2.  If a comment has been added by another member - select the member's profile and send Message.

3.  You can reply to a message that you have received.

Add Records
If the record is not on one of our extensive databases or transcribed you can add it manually. All you need to do is complete as much information as you have and save it. It will appear in My research and if any other member is researching the same name it will automatically be matched.
