D-DAY - 65 YEARS AGO - JUNE 6, 1944

On June 6 1944 British, Canadian and American troops stormed the beaches of France to establish a grip on fortress Europe. The largest armada the world had ever seen began a bitter assault against a determined enemy. It was the first step to the liberation of Nazi occupied Europe and the 5th year of the war. A war which claimed millions of lives both civilian and military. The British alone suffered almost 400,000 deaths according to some estimates.

Familyrelatives.com military Records include World War II Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force deaths. D-Day was not only the beginning of the end of World War II but a sombre reminder of the Great War which had ended only 26 years previously.
